Coach Bob Osborne
When Foothill opened its doors in 1963, they needed a football coach to
build a football program from the ground up. Coach Bob Osborne,
willing to create a new team with only Freshmen and Sophomores, was
the man for the job! After starting his career at Tustin High and working
a few years at the junior college level, Coach Osborne wanted to be
back with high school students.
“Working with my first group of athletes brought us pretty close,” said
Osborne. “With Foothill being a new program we had a JV team, called
a ‘B’ Team back then, and Freshmen, the ‘C’s’ so I worked with those
kids for 3 years. We played at the varsity level our second year without
any seniors and did pretty darn well. Then we won league in just our
3rd year!”
Coach Bill Snyder's 16 Goals for Success
Coach Bill Snyder coached at Foothill High School from
1969-1974, then went on to a coach at West Texas State and
Iowa before landing at Kansas State University. Starting in
1989 Coach Snyder turned Kansas State from the worst
Division One football program in the country to one of the elite
programs. Prior to this stellar turnaround, the Wildcats lost 27
straight games, making Coach Snyder the mastermind in one
of the greatest turnarounds in athletic coaching history.
We, the Alumni Association of FHS,
caught up with Coach Snyder this week
and asked him what it was like coaching
at Foothill back in the early 70’s.
“Wonderful faculty and staff of genuine
and caring people. I had young men
who possessed the intrinsic values that
allowed them to become successful
student-athletes in their personal lives.”
